DCYHA Youth Ice Hockey OfficialsDCYHA was represented in fine fashion at the most recent USA Hockey on-ice referees camp held 9/22/2007. In addition to returning veterans Bronson Kunzler, Bremen Acord, and P.J. Tanner (who all worked as referees in the the 2006-07 season), sixteen other players from Davis County Youth Hockey Association joined in the fray. When asked why they wanted to become a referee, DCYHA attendees stated reasons spanning from “I just love the sport of ice hockey” to “Where else could I earn $20 an hour?”.

Being a referee provides a great way to better learn the game and to give back to the hockey community. The day long training camp will need to be followed up by an online, open-book exam before the new players can earn their crest and start working games. New officials are allowed to work any game below their current age group and will be evaluated on an ongoing basis by Wasatch Ice Hockey Officials Association (WIHOA) to help them understand the rules, proper conduct, and on-ice positioning.
